Academic Audit
What is an Academic Audit?
An Academic Audit is a computerized version of your courses in a degree plan format available from your advisor or via the web. Not all Colleges at the University of Houston are currently using Academic Audit software, and not all degree plans are available for every catalog year. In the Bauer College of Business, only undergraduate plans are currently available. You must have been enrolled as a student at UH within the last two semesters with automated records to request an academic audit.
What Is an Academic Audit Used For?
Academic Audit is a supplement, not a substitute, for seeing an academic advisor. Running an audit is helpful either prior to your advising session to help focus questions on specific issues, or as a follow-up to advising to make sure you are on track each semester with course select ion.
- Degree Shopping: Unofficial audits allow students to "degree shop," trying out various plans to determine which best utilizes their completed courses.
- Course Selection for Registration: Unofficial audits also assist students in course selection for registration purposes. The audit along with a current prerequisite sheet allows students to select courses that will count toward their degree and for which they meet prerequisites.
- Graduating Seniors: Students who are graduating should run an audit prior to the beginning of their final semester to make sure they are registered in all remaining degree requirements.
- Filing for a Degree Plan: Students can check if all degree filing requirements are met or what is left to complete. Click here for degree filing requirements.
- V.A. Certification: Students requesting V.A. Certification should provide the Front Desk staff in the Office of Student Services, 262 Melcher Hall, with a copy of an unofficial audit along with V.A. Certification paperwork to insure that the advisor knows what degree plan they are following.
- Verification of status: For unofficial purposes, Academic Audit may be used to verify your progress in completing your degree. For example, Mu Iota Sigma requires a copy of your Academic Audit to be attached to your application for membership. Some Departments may request an Audit for students requesting to be enrolled into closed classes.
What Major and Minor Should You Select when Using Academic Audit?
Academic Audit will default to your declared major. You may also "degree shop"-trying out various majors you are interested in to see how your courses match up. Students who know what they plan to pursue may select that major. To officially file for a degree plan, students must meet the requirements to file and submit an application (see the website "Filing for a Degree Plan").
There are seven majors under the BBA Degree. Students may have up to two majors in the following areas. Students with a double major may cross-count courses in one major toward the advanced business electives requirements for the second major (6 hours for Accounting and MIS, 12 hours for all other majors). Effective Fall 2005, business majors can also minor in business (except for Business Administration). The online Academic Audit lists these majors by Department, as follows:

How Do You Determine Your Catalog Year when Using Academic Audit?
All new business majors filing a degree plan in to be effective in Fall 2005 or later will be on the 2005 Degree Plan. Business majors under Pre-Fall 2005 plans may switch to the new plan by filing a degree plan.

What to Do if Academic Audit Does Not Correctly Count Courses or Default to Correct Catalog Year?
If you have coursework from other schools not showing, first check with the Transfer Admission Office, 129 E. Cullen to make sure they have received your transcript and it has been evaluated. Students with International Transfer Evaluations or petitions for course equivalency not showing should provide your advisor with a copy for automation. Students with transfer credit requesting a waiver of the Social Science-Writing Intensive requirement based on completing 6 hours of Social Science at another Texas state school, the business speech requirement, or other core requirements completed at another Texas state school not showing as complete on your audit, should contact your advisor by e-mail.
If Academic Audit does not default to the catalog year of your major, and you are following the 2005 (available online in Spring 2005 for students graduating in December 2005 or later) plan, you can select "Other Majors" and run an audit using the 2001 plan. If you have been approved to follow the pre-2005 plan and it defaults to the new plan, come by the Front Desk in 262 Melcher Hall and ask the staff to run an audit for you, or contact your advisor.
How Do You Access the Web Version of Academic Audit?
Click on Academic Audit to access the web version of Academic Audit. To print your academic audit, you must log in to enrollment services online, click "advising" and then select "academic audit".
