Funding Will Be Used to Study Benefits of Pyrolysis Oil
Stephen Arbogast is a member of the core study team
National Renewable Energy Lab recently granted $250,000 to C. T. Bauer College of Business’ GEMI program to study the economic and commercial benefits of Pyrolysis Oil. Pyrolysis Oil, or Pyoil, is a biomass based fuel oil that can potentially be refined in existing oil refineries. The funding emerged out of a GEMI workshop.
Executive Professor of Finance at Bauer College of Business, Stephen Arbogast, is a member of the core study team. “We will examine how the industry would organize commercial development of this technology and what that might cost with today's technology and engineering,” he said.
“Then, we will recommend places where further research is needed to bring costs down and make the economics of investing in Pyrolysis oil more attractive,” Arbogast added.
In their 15 month study, GEMI and NREL want to define the quality characteristics and specifications that Pyoil needs to meet, refine the business model, and identify the significant research frontiers.
For the study, UH is supporting GEMI with contracting assistance, research assistance and facilities.
