boss instructions
BOSS (Bauer Online Support System) is a sytem that allows RICS to best serve the needs of the faculty, students, and staff of Bauer College. ALL requests, whether via phone or walk-in, will be prioritized and entered into the B.O.S.S. database. Preference will not be given to walk-in calls. All requests will be handled according to priority level. For information on how we prioritize requests, read the Service Level Codes.
Creating your B.O.S.S. account:
- Go to the Internet. (Double click on the Internet Explorer icon)
- In the address bar type : http://www.bauer.uh.edu/B.O.S.S.
- Press the enter key on keyboard (Verify that the address is correct)
- Click on New User. (Use your RICSNT username/password)
- Fill in your information. (Required fills are marked with an asterisk)
- Username: jdoe (RICSNT logon) (Examples)
- First Name: John
- Last Name: Doe
- Email Address: john.doe@uh.edu
- Location: 102A (Office Number)
- Department: RICS (Click the down arrow to choose your department)
- Password: (Enter your RISCNT password)
- Confirm Password: (Enter your RISCNT password again)
- Click Submit.
Once you have submitted your information, the following message will appear:
The account has been successfully created.
You may now log into the help desk.
Logging on:
- Click B.O.S.S. logon.
- Enter your username. (e.g. jdoe)
- Enter your password.
- Click Logon. (You are now logged into the RICS B.O.S.S.)
Submitting a problem:
- Click Submit New Problem. (This option is used to submit a new problem)
- Select a category for your problem. (Click the down arrow)
- Enter a title for the problem. (e.g. printer) (All other information will automatically appear)
- Enter a description of the problem. (Describe the problem in detail)
- Click Submit Problem. (Note: Clear Problem clears what you have previously typed)
- Click Logoff. (After submitting your problem you can logoff)
- Click Menu. (The option will take you back to the main menu)
Note: A email confirmation will automatically be sent to your email with your problem ID.
Viewing problem list:
- Click B.O.S.S. logon. (If you are not already logged on)
- Enter your username . (e.g. jdoe)
- Enter your password .
- Click Logon. (You are now logged into the RICS B.O.S.S.)
- Click View Problem List . (To view problem(s) that you have previously submitted)
*Note: If you have more than one problem click on the description next to the ID number to view the problem.
- ID: ( Each problem is designated by an ID)
- Title: (The title you assigned to the problem)
- Assigned to: (All problems will be assigned to their proper area)
- Date Submitted: (The date you submitted the problem)
- Status: (The status of the problem)
- If you know the specific ID(s) you wish to search when logging into B.O.S.S. You may enter the ID.
- Then click Open specific ID . (You open specific problem by entering its ID)
- Click logoff or Menu.
*Note: If you have more than one problem click on the description next to the ID number to view the problem.
Attaching files to a boss problem:
In order to attach a file you must submit a ticket or have an existing ticket with an opened Problem Id.
New Submitted Help Desk Ticket: new.pdf
- Submit New Problem/Project. (This will assign your problem with an ID)
- Click on “No attached files” link.
- Click on the “Browse…” button. (locate file you wish to attach or type the path to the file )
- Click on the “Attach button”. (this will attach your file)
- Click the “Close” button when you have attached file. (This will exist you from BOSS)
Go Back – will take you back to your problem.
Remove/View – To view or remove an attached file select and highlight the filename and click Remove or View .
Note: File should not be more 5 MB
Existing Submitted Help Desk Ticket: existing.pdf
- View Problem/Project List.
- Select the Problem/Project that you wish to attach file. (Your problem should be assign with an ID)
- Click on “Attach a file” link.
- Click on the “Browse…” button. (locate file you wish to attach or type the path to the file )
- Click on the “Attach button”. (this will attach your file)
- Click the “Close” button when you have attached file. (This will exist you from BOSS)
Go Back – will take you back to your problem.
Remove/View – To view or remove an attached file select and highlight the filename and click Remove or View .
Note: File should not be more 5 MB
Searching the knowledge base:
- Click B.O.S.S. logon. (If you are not already logged on)
- Enter your username.
- Enter password.
- Click logon
- Click Search the Knowledge Base.
- Enter keywords. ( This will narrow your search down to all of the problems that contain your keyword) (e.g. printer not printing)
- Search Fields: (Leave all the search fields checked, your keyword may appear in all of the fields in the knowledge base)
- Click Search.
- Once you have viewed all of the problems you can logoff or go back to the previous menu.

Updating your B.O.S.S. account
If your extension, room office, email address has changed or you would like to change your current password you may do so by following the steps below:
- Go to the Internet. (Double click on the Internet Explorer icon)
- In the address bar type: http://www.bauer.uh.edu/B.O.S.S.
- Press the enter key on keyboard (Verify that the address is correct)
- Enter your Username (This is your RICSNT username)
- Click on Edit Information below Other.
- Click Submit after you have made your changes.
- You will recieve the following message:

Update Information: Account Updated
The account has been successfully updated.

Click on Main Menu (When you submit a new problem your newly updated information will appear.)
Forgot Password?
- Go to the Internet . (Double click on the Internet Explorer icon)
- In the address bar type : http://www.bauer.uh.edu/B.O.S.S.
- Press the enter key on keyboard (Verify that the address is correct)
- Click on Email My Password.
- Enter your Username (This will be your RICSNT username)
- Click on Email Password (Allow 3-5 minutes to receive email.)
- Log back into B.O.S.S. with username/password.
