Welcome! These are exciting times for the Bauer College Finance Department. There has been a vigorous growth in our faculty, educational programs, and research faculty. Our faculty is excellent and increasingly receives recognition for its productivity and impact in the finance field. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently ranked the Finance Department #8 in the country in faculty research productivity. Another recent survey in Financial Management ranks our department #1 in the Gulf-Coast Region.
Our objective is to design courses and programs to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills, and market relevance to allow our students to succeed in the lucrative but challenging world of finance. We offer excellent and innovative programs. The Cougar Fund Program allows selected graduate students the opportunity to manage a multi-million private investment fund while taking a unique set of courses on security analysis and mutual fund management. Houston is the energy Capital of the world. We were the first to design and offer a graduate certificate in Energy Risk Management. Today, we offer four Energy certificates. We also offer an innovative program in private equity and venture finance funding. The Global Energy Management track in our BBA program allows students to prepare for leadership positions in the energy industry.
We attract a diverse and excellent international student body benefiting from our rigorous academic programs. Students may concentrate in the areas of Security Analysis and Investments, Corporate Finance, Financial Markets and Institutions, and International Finance. We offer a wide range of courses leading to the BBA, Masters of Science in Finance, and Ph.D. degrees. The Masters of Science in Finance is a 12 course program that can be done in part-time of full-time basis, and attracts strong students, with an average GMAT of around 650. The Ph.D. program is a full-time program.
How We Rank
In the 2005 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index of graduate programs published in the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Bauer College’s Finance department ranked 8th in the nation overall. Of the top 10 schools in this ranking, the department had the highest journal publications per faculty and the highest citations per faculty. In another recent ranking survey based on faculty research and published in Financial Management, the Finance department had the highest ranking in the entire Gulf Coast Region.
