Associate Professor of Accounting
Ph.D. University of Texas-Austin
Prior to joining the University of Houston, Dr.
Alciatore served on the faculty at Louisiana State
University, Southern Methodist University in Dallas,
and the London Business School in London, England.
Dr. Alciatore has taught numerous executive education
courses at universities and for various energy companies
on such topics as financial statement analysis, financial
reporting and disclosure, financial accounting, and
oil and gas accounting. Her research activities center
on financial markets, with a focus on accounting
and financial reporting issues for the energy industry.
She is on the editorial boards of the Petroleum Accounting
and Financial Management Journal and the Oil and
Gas Tax Quarterly.

Stephen Arbogast served from 1999-2004 as the Treasurer
of ExxonMobil Chemical Company and has over thirty
years of experience in finance working with Exxon
Corporation and ExxonMobil Chemical. While Treasurer
of Chemicals, Mr. Arbogast held positions that included
Director of Qenos (Australia's sole manufacturer
of polyethylene, a joint venture with Orica PLC),
Director of Dexco (a joint venture with Dow Chemical),
and Director of Al Jubai Petrochemical Company in
Saudi Arabia. Other former positions included Vice
President of Finance for SeaRiver Maritime Inc. (an
Exxon Shipping Company), Treasurer for Exxon Capital
Corporation, Finance and Planning Manager for Esso
Brasileira de Petroleo in Brazil, and Treasurer of
Esso Central America, Panama, and Mexico.

Prior to joining the UH faculty in 1996, Professor
Kumar served on the faculty of the Graduate School
of Industrial Administration at Carnegie-Mellon University.
He is the recipient of the University of Houston
Enron Teaching Excellence Award for 2001-02, and
Excellence in Classroom Award from Carnegie Mellon
University. Professor Kumar is widely published in
the leading finance, economics, and management journals.
His areas of specialization include Real Options,
Corporate Financial Policies and Governance, Stochastic
Processes, and Industrial Organization.

Craig Pirrong

Director of Energy Markets, UH-GEMI
Ph.D. University of Chicago
Prior to joining UH, Dr. Pirrong was the Watson
Family Professor of Commodity and Financial Risk
Management and Associate Professor of Finance at
Oklahoma State University. He has also served as
a faculty member of the University of Michigan, of
the University of Chicago, and of Washington University
in St. Louis. Professor Pirrong's research focuses
on the economics of commodity markets, the relation
between market fundamentals and commodity price dynamics,
and the implications of this relation for the pricing
of commodity derivatives. His recent research is
concentrated on the power markets. Professor Pirrong
has also published extensively on the economics of
financial exchanges, publishing 30 articles in professional
publications and three books. Professor Pirrong has
consulted widely; past clients include electric utilities,
major commodity processors and consumers, and commodity
exchanges around the world.

Joseph Pratt
Cullen Professor of History & Business
Professor of Management
Ph.D. Johns Hopkins University
Joseph A. Pratt is the Cullen Professor of History
and Business at the University of Houston, where
he has taught for the last 16 years. Before coming
to UH, he taught in the business school at the University
of California-Berkeley and at the Harvard Business
School. He earned his B.A. from Rice University and
his Ph.D. in economic history from Johns Hopkins.
A specialist in the history of the petroleum industry,
he has written histories of Amoco, the Texas Eastern
Corporation, and the National Petroleum Council.
He is currently at work on a history of the offshore
petroleum industry.

Latha Ramchand

A former financial analyst with Midfirst Bank, Professor
Ramchand joined the UH faculty in 1993. Professor
Ramchand's areas of specialization include corporate
finance and international finance. Her research interests
areas include international asset pricing models,
global equity issues, and home bias in portfolio
composition, and her research has appeared in the
leading finance journals.

Teaching areas are oil and gas accounting, financial
statement analysis, financial accounting, and international
accounting. Co-author of the book, Survey of Accounting.
Previously taught at Texas A&M University, University
of Kansas, and Wichita State University. Developed
and taught Continuing Professional Education courses
on topics such as financial analysis, managerial
accounting and oil and gas tax and accounting. Publications
have appeared in The Oil and Gas Quarterly, Business,
The Financial Review, The Tax Executive, Hospital
Financial Management, Louisiana CPA, Readings in
Oil Industry Accounting, The Texas Business Executive,
and Journal of Finance, among others.
