Bauer Internship Program

The mission of the Bauer Internship Program is to help prepare students majoring in Business for the transition from the academic world to the business world and to prepare them for careers in industry, government, and nonprofit organizations. To accomplish this mission, students will be educated on the importance of pursuing an internship, will have access to workshops and events specifically designed for students enrolled in this Program, and will have access to internship opportunities and interactions with business leaders on the local and state level, and eventually the national and international level.

All internship positions in the Bauer Internship Program are listed in the Bauer Career Gateway system and students enrolled in this Program are eligible to apply for these positions. Students interested in learning about available internship opportunities available through the Bauer Internship Program should log on to Bauer Career Gateway and look for positions labeled as “Bauer Internship Program”. Your username is you’re UH email alias and your password is generated by the Bauer Career Gateway system.  If you have not received your password, please email us at hirebauer@uh.edu or utilize the ‘forgot password’ tab.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS PROGRAM?

  1. Be a Bauer College of Business student majoring in business
  2. Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
  3. Undergraduates must have a minimum of 12 credit hours at UH / Graduate level students do not have to meet this particular requirement.

    ** Students will not be able to enroll in the Program during the summer semesters**

HOW DO I ENROLL?

To enroll in the Bauer Internship program, you must:

  1. Complete the Bauer Internship Program Orientation OnlineYou only have to complete this requirement one time. (this is located in the on-line tools section of our website).
  2. Print quiz results and an academic audit and present both documents to the Rockwell Career Center front desk.
  3. Have an approved resume in the Bauer Career Gateway System.
  4. Schedule an Intake Session 

    The next step in this process is to schedule an Intake Session at our front desk (please contact our front desk for current intake schedule). 

    PPA and MBA students do not have to complete this requirement and will receive a welcome letter via e-mail once your paperwork has been processed.

    In addition, log into your Career Gateway account and tag yourself as Bauer Internship Program Interested.  This will allow you access to a small percentage of positions until you have completed the process of becoming a member.   If you have any questions please contact the Internship Coordinator at 713-743-4229.

  5. Make an appointment to attend an intake session. During this appointment, the student learns more specifically how this Program works and what is expected of them in regards to dealing with employers, etc. You only have to complete this requirement one time.

Upon completion of these steps, the student is enrolled in the Bauer Internship Program and is eligible to apply for positions marked as such in the Bauer Career Gateway system.

If a student meets any of the following criteria, they are not eligible to enroll in this Program:

  • Cannot complete an internship before they graduate
  • Have already graduated and are not currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP?

You can maintain your Bauer Internship Program (BIP) Membership by completing one renewal activity each semester.  If you have not completed the renewal activity you will be suspended from the Bauer Internship Program and will need to schedule an appointment with Missy Bell in order to be reinstated.

All Spring 2008 Renewal Activities must be completed and turned into Missy Bell by April 28, 2008.

Renewal Activities

Renewal activities can be any career focused workshop sponsored by the Rockwell Career Center.  These can include:

  • Mock Interviews
  • Career Counseling Sessions
  • Workshops - all workshops are listed in Career Gateway and on the Bauer Calendar
  • On-Line Workshop
    Bauer Career Fair and Mixer’s held by our department will not count as renewals.

Please send Missy Bell an email once you have completed your renewal activity to ensure that you receive credit for the activity.

If you are in a specialty program such as PES or PPA and you are already required to complete one of the renewal activities listed above then it may also count toward your BIP requirement.
