our history
Since 1991, the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship (WCE) has provided students a stimulating and exciting learning environment that integrates real world experience with traditional classroom education.
The Wolff Center was founded to be the catalyst for more closely aligning academic output to the needs of the economy. Twenty years ago, the Fortune 500 companies of this nation hired over 70% of the college graduates in the U.S. Therefore, Business Colleges educated students to be middle managers with functional skill sets in areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, etc. Today, Fortune 500 companies hire less than 7% and the Entrepreneurial Enterprises of the nation hire over 60% of our graduates. The universities are still teaching the same material, the same way. Recognizing the shift of our economy and its impact on our students' futures, the University of Houston empowered the Center's chairman, Bill Sherrill, to formulate a Program that would bring entrepreneurial education to students of the CT Bauer College of Business.
In 1996, the program received state certification to grant majors in Entrepreneurship at the bachelor's level. Our alumni have proudly grown to over 350, and the family keeps growing. The Center currently has 78 stakeholders and ten equity board members that support the Center financially. Over two hundred mentors and a dozen roundtable leaders support the program's co-curricular activities.
The Center also seeks to be a resource for the Houston entrepreneurial community by hosting and sponsoring events within the community. Find out more on our events page.
