Financial Executives International scholarship

There is a scholarship available that is focused on YOU -- the Financial Executives International scholarship. The deadline to submit an application will be November 16th. The qualifications that this scholarship are:
  • A  major in either accounting or finance
  • Minimum GPA 3.75
  • At least junior status
  • Active participant in community service
  • Financial Need
  • A graduation date beyond May 2010
To apply (especially if you have not already done so) please submit a Bauer Scholarship Application. In fact, you are encouraged to submit one application (at the beginning of the year) every year that will be pulled for all scholarships that awarded throughout the year.

Fifth-Year Accounting Student Scholarship

If you are interested in applying for the Fifth-Year Accounting Student Scholarship Program, Please:
  • Contact Michael Newman at MichaelN@UH.edu for the application form
  • Attach a copy of your resume
  • Include an official (sealed) copy of your official transcript
Who can apply?  Students who…
  • Are classified as residents of Texas
  • Are enrolled at participating public or private, non-profit colleges and universities in Texas (including junior/community colleges)
  • Are enrolled at least half-time
  • Will have completed at least 120 hours of college course work (including at least 15 semester credit hours of accounting) at the beginning of the term in which the award is being made
  • Are making satisfactory academic progress
  • Have not already taken the CPA exam, but plan to take the CPA examination in the State of Texas and are willing to sign a written statement confirming the intent to take the written examination conducted by the Texas State Board of Public Accounting for the purpose of being granted a certificate of "Certified Public Accountant"
  • Register for the Selective Service or are exempt from this requirement
  • Demonstrate financial need (please apply for FAFSA by going to http://www.uh.edu/financial/undergraduate/how-apply/ if you have not already done so)
The award may be used at participating public and private, non-profit colleges and universities in Texas, including junior/community colleges. Individuals may receive a scholarship for up to $5000.

Tax Executive Institute scholarships

The Tax Executive Institute (TEI) is giving $25,000 in scholarships to ten qualified applicants this December. We are one of only 5 educational institutions receiving these awards, in recognition of the high quality of our MS Accountancy Program Taxation Track. Two scholarships will be presented to Bauer MS Accountancy Tax Track students at the TEI Christmas party on December 19th.  

To be considered you must be registered as a full time MS Accountancy Tax Track student in the Spring 2010 semester, and
  • Have a 3.0 or higher GPA;
  • Write a letter of introduction (2-3 pages maximum) explaining why you are interested in practicing in the area of tax, any experience you have in tax what your career goals are, and any financial need you may have;
  • Submit a copy of your class schedule for the fall semester; and,
  • Include a copy of your resume and an official transcript.
Please deliver the application package to the attention of Michael Newman (MH 390A) by noon Friday, November 13th.  The recipients will be announced on Friday, November 20th and will be invited to attend the TEI Christmas Party, where they will receive their checks. If you are selected, please be prepared to give them your social security number.

Students entering the MS Accountancy Program in 2010 are eligible as long as they are pursuing the Tax Track.

Institute of Internal Auditors scholarships

The Houston Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is awarding two $1500 scholarships to U.H. students who plan on completing the three courses (ACCT 4375: Internal Audit, ACCT 4397: Enterprise Risk Management, and ACCT4397: Control & Security of Financial Information) required for the Global IIA and Bauer Internal Audit Certificates before they graduate with a BBA in Accounting, or who are taking the Risk or Internal Audit Track as an MS Accountancy student.

To be considered you must be an undergraduate student and
  • Have a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Have completed ACCT 4375: Internal Audit as an undergraduate student or ACCT7397 Governance as a MS Accountancy student
  • Write and sign a letter of introduction/goal statement (2-3 pages maximum) explaining why you are interested in internal audit and what your career goals are
  • Please include a statement that you will be completing the Internal Audit Certificate (if you are an undergrad student) or Risk or Internal Audit Track (if you are a MS Accountancy student) at the end of your letter/goal statement
  • Submit a copy of your class schedule for the fall semester showing you are taking the remaining one or two courses needed to complete both the Bauer and Global IIA Certificate in Internal Auditing before you graduate with your current degree
  • Include a copy of your resume and an official transcript
Please deliver the application package to Michael R. Newman (MH 390A) by noon Wednesday, November 25th.  The recipients will be notified by December 11th.
