Reminder: April 1st Last Day to Drop Course with Grade of "W"


The last day to drop a spring 2008 course with a grade of "W" is Tuesday, April 1, before 7 p.m.  Students cannot drop online through Self-Service.
 
Please note that for undergraduate students**, the dropping courses policy limiting students to 6Ws is in effect.
 
Steps to drop a course:
1. Pick up a drop form at the Welcome Center: Registration and Academic Records customer service desk or from your Department (one form per course).
2. Get the signature from the instructor of the course AND your academic advisor (do this well before the deadline, as no drops will be accepted after the deadline).
3. Turn the signed form in to the Welcome Center: Registration and Academic Records customer service desk by Tuesday, April 1, before 7 p.m.
4. Continue to attend the class until the drop has been approved and entered, and the W grade is visible in Self Service.  Undergraduates who have exceeded 6 W's must complete all courses.
 
 
**Graduate and Professional Students and Post-Baccalaureate students must also adhere to this procedure and deadline; however the limit of 6Ws does not apply to them.

Reminder: NOW is the time to complete your financial aid application for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year!

Submit your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the upcoming school year NOW.  Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA by the UH priority deadline of April 1, 2008.  

Remember:

  1. UH School Code is 003652.

  2. Make sure you correctly indicate your full or part time status—if that changes (you indicated full time but enrolled only in part time) contact your financial aid advisor IMMEDIATELY since this will delay your aid.

  3. Keep a lookout to your PeopleSoft account and UH email for updates and awarding information.

Reminder: Students planning to graduate in Spring or Summer 2008 and start the Masters Program in Accountancy should be signing up to the take the GMAT NOW!

An official GMAT score takes on average 4 weeks to get to the Masters Program Admissions Advisor.  Because of this, International Students should take the GMAT within the next week or so and Domestic students should take the GMAT by May 1st.

The Tuesday / Thursday / every other Friday course Ethics for Accountants GENB 7304 (GENB 4397) will be meeting in 116 MH. 

Advanced ACCT is scheduled to meet this Friday.

PPA, CAP: Free GMAT Prep Information Session, March 14th 11:30 in 180 MH

Michael Newman, Director of Accounting Programs for the Bauer College of Business will once again present a series of free sessions of GMAT prep this semester.  

This prep class is open to anyone at the Bauer College of Business that needs assistance with the GMAT.  PPA students are strongly encouraged to attend since the GMAT is required to take graduate level double counted classes. In addition, the GMAT is the exam that is required for admission into the Master’s Program in Accountancy.

There will be an informational session this Friday, March 14th in room 180 MH starting at 11:30 am to discuss the class format.  The actual classes will begin Friday, March 28th and are scheduled for 11:30 – 1:00.

About the Opportunity:

This position will average about 40 hours or more per week with a travel requirement up to 25%.  

Ideal qualifications:

  • Progress toward completion of PPA, PPA with MIS minor, double major – PPA/MIS, or MS in Accountancy in the Risk Management track.

PwC has been named the #1 organization in Training magazine's Top 125 list for 2008, which is the industry standard in terms of ranking organizations that excel at professional development.  Not only did PwC surpass all of the Big Four firms for the second year in a row, PwC was the number one rated firm among all businesses.

PwCs  February newsletter contains information regarding a new webcast that will explore international tax issues. PwC has also provided a publication that outlines the key similarities and differences between IFRS and US GAAP most commonly found in practice.
