Tesoro and BKD will be holding a joint mini-mixer in 275 MH on Wednesday, February 20 from 2-4 PM.

XBRL – A New Era in Financial Reporting?


Description:
XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) is quickly coming to the forefront of business reporting around the world. What is XBRL? Who is using it? Will it become the de facto standard for business reporting? EY will be discussing what you need to know about XBRL, where it is going, and what its impacts will be on the market as a whole.

Take aways from the discussion will include:

  • Helping participant gain a clear understanding of what XBRL is, what it isn’t, and how it will impact the business reporting supply chain.
  • Helping participants understand where XBRL is going, who is using it, both here in the US and around the world, and how it is being implemented.

How does live interactive webcasting work?
A webcast allows you to participate in a live event without leaving your desk by plugging into two basic communication tools: a telephone connected to a designated conference call number, and a computer with Internet access, either on a separate phone line or through a direct connection to the Internet. Once connected, you will be able to ask questions and have them answered and participate in polls real-time, among other features.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credit
We anticipate that this webcast will qualify for one CPE credit. In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, you must connect to the technology and the teleconference and respond to the polling questions throughout the webcast. Certificates will be automatically sent via e-mail to those who meet the CPE requirements within approximately four weeks of the program date.

PPA: USDA Scholarship / Internship

USDA PUBLIC SERVICE LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Deadline: March 15, 2008

FULL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIP and PAID INTERNSHIP
Basic Eligibility Requirements
• Be a U.S. citizen, or be in the final stages of the application process for U.S. citizenship, and will have attained citizenship within a year of being accepted to the program;
• Be a current student in good academic standing with at least a cumulative 2.75 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale;
• Attend a mandatory orientation from July 6- 12, 2008 in Washington, D.C.
• Have a strong interest in a career in public service with the USDA;
• And meet major and class level requirements of each scholarship.
Successful applicants are leaders in their community, committed to public service and intellectually curious.


The program offers:
• Full-tuition scholarship
• Paid internship
• Mentoring, and leadership training
• Permanent employment upon graduation.

PPA, CAP: GMAT Prep Course Dates

Professor Michael Newman, Director of Accountancy Programs, will be holding a FREE GMAT Prep Course starting the Friday before Spring Break, March 14th from 11:30 - 1:00 in 180 MH. 

In these sessions, Professor Newman will go over the material needed to boost your GMAT knowledge in preperation for the exam required for admission to the Master's Program in Accountancy.

The (tentative) dates for the GMAT course are as follows:  

March 14; April 4, 11, 18, 25; May 2

PPA, MPA: KPMG to interview for Accounting Internship Exclusively at Bauer.

KPMG will be on campus March 19th to interview students in the PPA and MPA for internship opportunities in their Tax, Audit, & Forensic Accounting divisions.

Students should drop off their resumes to Lisa Tillman at the front desk in 275 MH, send resumes via email to lsmithti@mail.uh.edu or by fax to 713-743-4364 by February 25th.

KPMG will receive these resumes and will schedule interview times.

PPA, MPA, CAP: Need to drop a course?

Students who are in one of the Accounting Programs (PPA, MPA, or CAP) that wish to drop a class may pick up a form in our front office 275 MH or at the Welcome Center.

Please note that these forms must be signed by the instructor and according to Bauer policy by the student's academic advisor.

The deadline to drop a class with a W is  APRIL 1, 2008.
