New Internal Audit Student Association

Wednesday, 17 December 2008 11:24 by thopkins

Internal auditing is another avenue that students can take besides the traditional accounting tracks such as audit and tax. Everyone knows the cliché that once you get Big 4 experience you can go anywhere you want in your career. Did you know that internal auditing offers you the same opportunities? Yet so many people do not know that it exists!

  • Did you know there is a huge market for internal auditing in Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Boston, and many other places around the country and around the world?
  • Do you have to be CPA ready to be an internal auditor? Although it is encouraged, it is not a requirement in most companies.
  • While many CPA firms require you to be CPA ready before they will even consider you for employment, internal auditing gives you another route to gain great experience while pursuing your future goals.
  • Once a person has internal audit experience, everyone wants to hire them!
  • There are a lot of internal audit departments out there that do not require extensive amounts of travel or overtime.
  • So what about starting salary? Did you know that a person can easily make approximately $50K without having any kind of internal audit experience? Some places pay even higher than that!
  • Did you know that by being an internal auditor you actually get to meet a lot of people in the company? Imagine having the CEO or the Chairman of the Audit Committee come and talk to you about issues in the company. Well as an internal auditor, that it sometimes a reality!
  • Internal auditors get to work with managers and employees throughout the organization. Internal auditors get to learn about processes that affect a company. Imagine learning about SOX to service center operations to executive expenses to records retention to fleet and many more areas within 2 years.

Internal auditing presents many opportunities for people to learn about a company and to pursue their career goals. So are you interested in learning more about internal auditing as a career? If so, then join the Internal Audit Student Association (IASA) and pursue the internal audit program at Bauer College of Business and see for yourself what a great choice you made!

Thanks,
