Requirements for Admission to the Bauer Professional Program in Accounting

To be considered for admission students must meet the following requirements:

Standard Admission Requirements

  1. Have filed or be qualified to file as an accounting major during the semester of admission to the PPA.
  2. Have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher (transfer students must have completed 12 or more hours at UH).
  3. Have more than 30 hours remaining to complete their undergraduate degree and have taken no more than 9 upper level (3000/4000 level) accounting hours. (i.e. be a sophomore or junior).
  4. Have an acceptable accounting GPA as follows:

UH Students   

  • If only ACCT 2331 and ACCT 2332 (must be both) have been completed at the University of Houston, the grade in each course must be greater than or equal to a B.

          OR

  • If any ACCT 3000/4000 courses hav been completed at UH, the average GPA for the courses must be greater than or equal to 3.0. ACCT 2331 or 2332 or their equivalents will not be included in the GPA calculations.

Transfer Students

  • If neither ACCT 2331 nor ACCT 2332 have been completed at UH, ACCT 3367 must be completed with a grade of B or higher.

  • If either ACCT 2331 or ACCT 2332 have been completed at UH, but not both, with a B or higher, an applicant can request conditional admission contingent upon completing
    ACCT 3367 with a grade of B or higher during the semester of conditional admission.
  1. Submit the Online Application by the published deadline. If you have any complications with the web-based application submit the Paper Application by the published deadline.

Special Admission

  1. Obtain approval by the director of the PPA. Requests should be stated on the PPA application.
  2. Retake ACCT 2331 and/or ACCT 2332 if grades in these courses do not qualify for standard admission (all grades, including the original, will be averaged to evaluate admission).
  3. Retake upper level accounting courses if they do not qualify for standard admission (all grades, including the original, will be averaged to evaluate admission).
  4. Exceptions are considered for those students who do not meet the standard admission requirements due to a prior difficult major or personal circumstance, and who have demonstrated considerable academic improvement in recent coursework.

PPA Admissions are reviewed according to the above requirements, the number of applicants and the applicant pool. Meeting the above requirements listed under standard admission does not guarantee admission to PPA.

Students meeting the early application deadline will generally receive an admission response within a month following the current semester's grade postings. Students applying between the early and late deadlines will receive a response before the start of the following semester.
