Internship Registration

Approval Process for Course Registration

Before the internship begins the student should:

  1. Obtain a “general petition” form, (part of the Internship Packet), from the Bauer College Career Services Center (MH 223) or online at: http://www.uh.edu/enroll/rar/petition.pdf, mark #11 - other.
  2. Attach to the petition form a copy of the internship offer letter or email. The offer letter should contain the following information:
  • Student name
  • Current address and phone number of student
  • Name of employer/division where internship will be held
  • Length of internship (Start/End Dates)
  • Description of internship activity (Audit, Tax, etc.)
  • Position Title which includes the word “Internship”
  • Level of Internship Course: ACCT 4341 or ACCT 7341

If the offer letter does not include any of the above items, please include the information on the general petition form.

Take the petition form and attachments to your respective academic advisor the PPA Advisor no later than two weeks prior to the start of the semester that you want to receive credit for the internship. The academic advisor will review the petition and your program status for approval and signature.

The rest of the approval and signature process will occur automatically. The Faculty Director(s) for the PPA and MS ACCY programs will also review and approve the internship petition.

Internship Course Registration

After the signature process is complete, the approved forms will be entered into the internship system and the student will be automatically registered for his or her internship course. Automatic enrollment for internships occurs during the week prior to the start of a semester. Students should see Internship Course Completion Requirements once registered.

Please Note:

  • Students who are not approved will be notified within two weeks after submitting the petition form (excluding UH staff Christmas Holiday).
  • Students who do not complete this process will not be registered for the internship course.
  • Students who do not complete all internship requirements will not receive credit for the course.

Internship Course Descriptions

ACCT 4341 - Accounting Internship

Prerequisites: Junior standing and prior written approval of the chair or program director. Enhancement of concepts and techniques learned in the classroom through work experience directly related to the auditing or accounting profession. (Internship credit is limited to three credit hours and requires employer evaluation.)

ACCT 7341- Accounting Internship

Prerequisites: Graduate standing and prior written approval of the chair or program director. Enhancement of concepts and techniques learned in the classroom through work experience directly related to the auditing or accounting profession. (Internship credit is limited to three credit hours and requires employer evaluation.)
